Generally speaking, a home theater system is a combination of electronic components designed to recreate the experience of watching a movie in a theater. When you watch a movie on a home theater system, you are more immersed in the experience than when you watch one on an ordinary television. For many, going to the local cinema is a distant memory since the pandemic, so now many are looking to stream relatively new movies and binge-watch TV shows in the comfort and safety of their home.
The most basic components for a home theater system would consist of a video display (a standard TV, a plasma or LCD TV, a projector, etc), a surround sound A/V receiver, a video source (DVD or Blu-ray player, cable or satellite box), and software applications (or apps) that combine the capabilities and functionality of the video/audio equipment, lighting and responsive furniture to provide a better-than-the-cinema experience.
